Non-profit place of refuge for women and children
Huronia Transition Homes is dedicated to offering a secure and nurturing environment for women and children seeking refuge from abuse. RDA had the privilege of undertaking the addition to this facility, which has been specifically designated by the province as a shelter for women transitioning out of human trafficking situations. Throughout the design process, our priority was to critically understand spatial and functional requirements of the residents and staff. This allowed us to effectively build upon the existing successful aspects and ensure that the new addition functioned as required, alongside the existing complex. By prioritizing the needs of those seeking support, we aimed to create a space that not only provided physical safety but also fostered a sense of empowerment and healing.
